This article is part 2 of the series designed by the team at AgileCloud to equip you with the power of knowledge around an EFSS Solution – if you missed part 1, you can read it here.
Certain public platforms, now offer Business Grade EFSS solutions that might ‘wow’ a prospect into thinking those file sync & sharing solutions meet the need appropriately, and through clever marketing elude the points that are vitally important for a South African Company.
Our previous article laid out 3 of the 6 of the most frequently asked questions that are typically asked when considering, enabling mobility through the likes of a sync & share solution. This article will address the remaining 3 of the 6 most frequently asked questions relating to employing an EFFS solution.
FAQ-4: How different are the Enterprise File Sync & Share solutions from a Public Cloud file sync & share solution, really? Could either solution expose my organization to risks?
A4: An Enterprise File Sync & Share solution enables companies and their IT departments to securely manage individual user privileges, including the likes of the types of company data that can be accessed and with whom it can be shared. Capabilities such as Authentication, Data Encryption, and Tracking can be realized with an EFSS solution (with the right partner – see part 1).
A number of EFSS solutions are generally in line with legislative compliancy requirements, this however is dependent on the service provider, and industry specific legislative requirements.
Public cloud solutions, on the other hand, being on an open/public platform expose an organizations to the risk of losing highly confidential data and documents. This lost data can potentially lead to a violation (or many) of industry-specific compliance or corporate governance regulations, aside from the potential reputational harm, and even potential financial losses. An open platform / public file sync & share solution with mediocre privacy policies leave an organization vulnerable to the risk of outside threats, beyond the reach of IT’s protection, management, and monitoring.
It could also mean that a competitor might have acquired the IP for your latest innovation and beats you to reaching the market with that same IP.
FAQ-5: What type of EFSS solution achieves the best performance?
A5: A recent test done by our team at AgileCloud, has proven that the best performance can be expected from a local provider – *NB: this is entirely dependent on the provider you choose.
We at AgileCloud decided to put our very own EFSS solution: SyncVault, up against one of the best international EFSS solution available today: BOX.com.
The test was simple and the aim of the test was to compare “best performance” based on the following parameters:
1 file – uploaded and then that same file downloaded again, the file size was 220MB – this same test was performed at 2 different times over a 2 day period for an unblemished result:
The results of SyncVault vs. Box.com
Day 1 – Start Time: 12h45:
- Upload – Started at 12:02:00, Completed at 12:45:03 = 43m03s
- Download – Started at 12:49:00, Completed at 12:59:51 = 10m51s
- Upload – Started at 13:02:00, completed at 13:03:55 = 1m55s
- Download – Started at 13:05:00, completed at 13:07:25 = 2m25s
Day 2 – Start Time: 06h05 (using the same 220MB file)
- Upload – Started at 06:05:00, Completed at 07:16:10 = 1h11m10s
- Download – Started at 07:20:00, Completed at 07:58:30 = 38m30s
- Upload – Started at 08:00:00, Completed at 08:02:25 = 2m25s
- Download – Started at 08:05:00, Completed at 08:09:56 = 4m56s
The resulting figures look like this:
- Upload – local is 24 to 28 times faster (95% – 97% productivity boost achieved with SyncVault as opposed to an international alternative)
- Download – local is 5 to 10 times faster (80% – 87% productivity boost achieved with SyncVault as opposed to an international alternative)
Undoubtedly Faster is Better. In our case at AgileCloud – a local service offering achieves the best performance as no time is wasted with the use of SyncVault
FAQ-6: How would I choose my EFSS provider?
A6: If this is the question you are now asking yourself, you could well be 80% of your way toward implementing your Enterprise File Sync & Share Solution.
Out of the various aforementioned questions this question is possibly the most pertinent and could be the deciding factor on whether you go ahead with implementing an EFSS or not. Sadly there is very seldom a “one shoe, fits all” solution, due to the variations in industry specific regulations as well as internal company corporate governance policies.
This being said whichever EFSS Solution might be in your cross-hairs as a potential candidate, it would need to offer a combination of all of the following features: Scalability, Reliability and most importantly Security & Compliancy.
AgileCloud offers one such solution, named SyncVault.
We would love to hear from you, so please do get in touch.
